Job Summary:

 

This position is responsible for the quality engineering functions relating to all production and converting processes under limited direction of the Quality Assurance Manager. The Quality Engineer will establish Quality procedures and testing methodologies that comply with customer requirements. This role addresses customer concerns/complaints/inquiries and works towards negotiating resolution to any issues in a timely manner. This resolution is accomplished by working with various staff members to determine root cause analysis of the issues using LCI tools and ISO document control.


Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1.   Responsible for establishment and maintenance of all Quality procedures and testing relating to all production lines.  This includes but is not limited to test method development with performance of Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility validation, development or modification of all work instructions and procedures, quality training of operators, SPC implementation including control charting and implementation of LCI methodologies for continuous improvement.

 

2.   Customer concern administration including root cause identification and corrective action implementation. This includes but is not limited to interfacing with Sales and Marketing resources and direct customer contact to obtain accurate input regarding specific customer complaints. Works to identify preventive actions that will avoid future quality concerns and communicates those actions to appropriate operational personnel.

 

3.   Responsible for the establishment, implementation and maintenance of ISO documentation plant-wide. All related documents reviewed and verified for  accuracy. Participate in and eventually lead internal ISO audits.

 

4.   Working in a team environment, lead and/or support LCI continuous improvement efforts. This includes promotion of process-based management tools to reduce waste and variation. Employing appropriate problem-solving methods to improve overall manufacturing effectiveness.

 

5.   Responsible for interacting with all employees throughout the Performance Materials organization in a professional and effective manner to provide support for the Quality System and ensure that the product is manufactured in accordance with customer and internal quality requirements.

 

6.   Backup for daily Quality functions including Daily Quality Review and issuance of Test Letters. Assist with the establishment, implementation and maintenance of the QIS implementation and Cognex Vision System. Maintain production related quality records.

 

7.   Must be knowledgeable in the effective use of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) tools and concepts to assist in process improvements, both within Lydall, and externally at our customers/suppliers. Serve as an active participant in LCI programs that promote continuous improvement.

Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required for Consideration as a Candidate:

(If a degree is required it must be from an accredited institution)

 

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a Technical discipline
  • Minimum of five years of job related experience in roles of increasing responsibility in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum three years of experience working with ISO:9001
  • Ability to employ a structured disciplined approach to continuous improvement efforts or performing quality audits
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to organize, manage and control workflow and to meet deadlines
  • Ability to effectively communicate and train employees at all levels of the organization on quality standards and requirements
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles 
  • Ability to effectively work with individuals at all levels of the organization and with customers and suppliers
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft computer software, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Green Belt Certification
  • Project Management training
  • Experience with CAD
  • Experience with statistical software programs
