Mr. Starr founded the John R. Starr, Inc. management consulting firm in 1972.
The firm has specialized in the nonwoven products, hygiene absorbent products
and related fields, worldwide, for over thirty years. Mr. Starr has directed
hundreds of strategic and market planning and assessment, business development,
technology evaluation and merger and acquisition support consulting projects
in the nonwoven products and related fields in the Americas, Europe and the Far
East. He also has led numerous consulting projects in the related fields of specialty
papers, specialty textiles, fibers and medical supplies.
Prior to forming John R. Starr, Inc., Mr. Starr was a senior consultant at
Arthur D. Little, Inc. of Cambridge, Massachusetts. At ADL he directed management
and technical consulting projects in the nonwoven and allied industries worldwide.
Mr. Starr was graduated by Lowell Technological Institute in Chemistry. He
has been a frequent speaker at nonwoven, hygiene absorbent products, pulp and
paper and related industry gatherings. He has authored numerous papers and publications
on the nonwoven business and technologies.
Mr. Starr has testified as an expert on several occasions before State and
Federal courts and the American Arbitration Association. These matters have included,
but not been limited to, intellectual property, supplier/customer supply agreements,
joint venture agreements and the history of development of key markets and technologies.
His contribution has generally been facts and opinions based on his long involvement
with, and expertise in, the nonwoven products, hygiene absorbent products and
related industries and technologies.
Mr. Starr has provided acquisition evaluation and commercial due diligence
support to strategic and financial buyers of numerous companies involved with
nonwoven fabrics, fibers and other key raw materials, hygiene absorbent products
and process equipment. He has been particularly helpful in helping potential
acquirers understand the prospects for each of the industry segments in which
the candidates are active, the competitive set in each segment, the specific
strengths and weaknesses of the candidates and opportunities for profitability
improvement and business expansion.
