The School of Human Ecology is an interdisciplinary unit within the LSU Agricultural Center. The school offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs to prepare students for professional careers in the three specialty areas: Textiles, Apparel Designs, and Merchandizing; Human Nutrition and Food; and Family, Child, and Consumer Science. The School has excellent laboratories and facilities for the interdisciplinary programs offered. Research facilities related to the nonwoven industry include: Textile Testing Laboratory equipped with Qtest and Instron tensile testers, spectrophotometer, colorimeter, Kawabata KES-FB instruments, B&K acoustical instrument, and other textile testing devices; Textile Processing Laboratory for needlepunching nonwoven fabrication; and Computer-Aided Apparel Design Laboratory with seven computer workstations and application software for patternmaking, grading, marking, and plotting. Current research interests are focused on nonwovens and composites from agricultural crops and residues, biobased polymers, instrumental evaluation of nonwoven softness, and online fabric sourcing database. he school highlights industrial cooperation and is serving the nonwoven industry through pioneer research, development of new product protocols, and product evaluation.
