Healthcare and Market Perspectives

Wednesday, November 14

Keynote: Medical

9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Moving Towards the Unification of Airborne Molecular Contamination and Particle Filters
Andrew Streifel, University of Minnesota
In medical facilities, the present state of filter maintenance and validation of installation is marginal. Outbreaks of aspergillosis in hospitals with large populations of immune compromised transplant and cancer treatment patients are at risk due to faulty maintenance practice. We will explore “in situ” validation and correction of ventilation system problems associated with filter installation, maintenance and infection control. This is an opportunity for Filtration companies.

Healthcare

10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Moderator: Eric Hanson, Air Techniques International

Healthcare: Applications and Considerations
Matt Middlebrooks, Filtration Group, Inc. Filtration applications are growing in healthcare. These new applications bring with them unique requirements for performance, both in particulate and molecular contamination, as well as special considerations throughout the life cycle, such as installation, disposal, and interactions with other technologies that may be employed in the HVAC system. This presentation will highlight several of the interesting applications of air filtration in the Healthcare industry and the associated issues relating to these applications.
Preparing for Avian Influenza and Emerging Infectious Diseases
Bill Palmer, AeroMed, Inc. Explore emerging infectious diseases such as XDR-TB and avian influenza. Learn how bringing these diseases under control may present new opportunities within the filtration industry.
Commissioning for Proper Filtration
Carl Lawson, Hanson Professional Services A look at methods to correct poorly designed and installed HVAC systems that protect the health of the building's inhabitants and maintain the integrity of the filtration system.

Global View of Filtration

11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Moderator: Robert Burkhead, Blue Heaven Technologies

New Filtration Media Technologies—Do you Know Who Your Next Competitor Is?
Ed Homonoff, Edward C. Homonoff & Associates, LLC
Examples of the breadth of nonwoven fabrics used by various segments of the filtration industry will be shared. Fabrics will be evaluated against each other and against fabrics produced by emerging technologies. Strategies to offset pressure from these new technologies will be discussed.
World Air and Liquid Filtration Markets in the Next Decade
Robert McIlvaine, The McIlvaine Company With hundreds of millions of rural Asians moving to cities, with oil and gas production peaking and renewable energy playing a new role, with nanotechnology and other new products, the markets for air and liquid filtration will grow and change substantially in the next decade. Equipment, industry and regional trends will be addressed for liquid macrofiltration, liquid cartridge filters, air filtration and purification, membrane separation and dust collection.
