Vaughn is one of the most well-known and well-respected educators in the nonwovens
industry worldwide. Recently retired as a Professor of Textiles in Clemson
University’s School of Materials Science and Engineering, Dr. Vaughn
has arguably touched the professional lives of more men and women in the business

For more than two decades, Dr. Vaughn’s Nonwovens Industry Forum,
held annually at Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina, brought together
experienced industry executives and newcomers to the world of nonwovens for
three days of seminars and networking. He continues his dedication to the education
of the current and next generation of nonwovens professionals through his participation
in a number of INDA-sponsored conferences and educational sessions.
Dr. Vaughn’s credentials are a testament to his illustrious career
in academia, with a focus on the business of nonwovens. He graduated from Lynchburg
College in 1962 with a B.S. degree in physics and mathematics and entered the
textile field as a graduate student at the Institute of Textile Technology,
where he earned an M.S. in Textile Technology in 1964. Dr. Vaughn served as
Department Head and then Director of the School of Textiles at Clemson University
from 1977 through 1989.
Dr. Vaughn's current research and publication thrust has focused on the
area of nonwovens and his works are widely published in international nonwovens
