New ‘Elementary Nonwovens’ Course to Educate Non-Technical Industry Executives

Two-day INDA course will focus on the basics of nonwovens and engineered fabrics for marketing, sales and customer service personnel

CARY, N.C. — July 19, 2006 — The “mysteries” of nonwovens technology will be simply explained in a new “Elementary Nonwovens” training course designed to educate non-technical personnel in the nonwovens industry. This course is scheduled for December 13-14, 2006 at INDA Headquarters, Cary, NC.

Sponsored by INDA, Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, the two-day course at INDA Headquarters in Cary, N.C., will simply and concisely explain fiber, fabric and process technologies utilized in the manufacturing of nonwovens and engineered fabrics.

The course is meant to help executives in marketing, sales, customer service, human resources and other non-technical positions to understand the technology behind the manufacturing of engineered fabrics.

The course will be taught by Dr. Roy Broughton, Auburn University, and Dr. Gajanan Bhat, University of Tennesse. Dr. Broughton and Dr. Bhat are well-respected and combined have over 50 years of experience in the nonwovens industry. They will team up to educate the next generation of non-technical executives.

The Elementary Nonwovens course will include:

  • An Overview of the Nonwovens Industry
  • Fiber to Fabric Technology: A discussion of carding, airlaid and wet laid processes. For each technology, the course will explain the process, provide a demonstration of their manufacturing and discuss their characteristics. End products using the processes will be discussed and examined as well.
  • Polymer to Fabrics: A basic look at the spunbond and meltblown processes. The course will explain the different fibers used in different fabrics and how they impact the end product’s performance.
  • Bonding Processes: A discussion of thermal bonding, chemical bonding, needlepunch and spunbond.
  • Comparison of Processes: A discussion on the advantages, disadvantages and properties of the various engineered fabric processes.
  • Worldwide Trends and Opportunities. A discussion on the state of the industry, where opportunities lie worldwide and the impact of overcapacity on the industry.
  • The course, scheduled to debut December 13-14, will take place over two days for a total of nine hours. The course will also offer an Optional Course Modeling session.
