Cutting Edge Approaches to Odor Control

Making Sense of Odor Measurement for Better Product Designs

Whether it is preventing parents from smelling dry odors when opening a bag of baby diapers or eliminating wet odors so adult incontinent product users can remain discreet, odor control continues to be a hot topic in our industry. And with that comes many different ways of measuring odor in our raw materials and finished goods so that we may design better products for consumers. But what measurement method best represents the consumer sensory experience? During this presentation, we’ll have odor experts from St. Croix Sensory and H.B. Fuller review common ways our industry tests for and measures odor today and why these may be missing the mark as it relates to how consumers of absorbent products experience odor. We’ll also highlight a case study of how H.B. Fuller has worked with St. Croix Sensory to create odor measurement test methods that represent the real lifecycle the absorbent products go through (i.e. from the package through disposal) in order to show the efficacy of H.B. Fuller’s ODOGard® product line.
