Material Developments to Reduce the Environmental Impact of Disposable Absorbent Hygiene Products
Increased consumer demand for hygiene products made with natural and environmentally friendly materials is driving industry participants at all levels to respond. Retailers, hygiene product manufacturers, large and small, and material suppliers are prioritizing research and product innovation attempting to rapidly design and introduce more sustainable products without compromising performance and value.
This presentation will provide perspective on significant material science developments and the prospects for addressing this challenge. Examples of recently launched hygiene products featuring natural and environmentally friendly materials will be described. Promising material developments that will impact superabsorbents, fluff pulp, nonwovens and film will be reviewed, including bio-polymers, natural fibers and other renewable resources.

Pricie Hanna is a founding partner of Price Hanna Consultants, a management and technical firm established in 2011 which specializes in nonwovens, hygiene absorbent products, disposable wipes, key raw materials and related fields. Her expertise ranges from end product market trends to the demand and technical requirements for the raw materials, such as resins, fiber, fluff pulp, airlaid and cover stock nonwovens, film, superabsorbent materials, adhesives and elastics, used to make these products.
