Chris Jorgensen
Director Of Technology Transfer, IPC-Association Connecting Electronics Industries
Chris Jorgensen is Director Technology Transfer with IPC—Association Connecting Electronics Industries, a worldwide trade association for the electronics interconnect industry. As a member of IPC’s technical department, Chris’s primary responsibility is staff liaison to standards development committees. These committees are responsible for such standards as embedded devices, chip and package interconnection, 2.5 and 3D assembly, supply chain traceability, printed electronics and e-textiles. Chris is secretary of the United States Technical Advisory Group of the International Electrical Commission’s Technical Committee 91 Electronics Assembly Technology and is a participating member of several of its working groups. He is also a member of the US TAG for IEC TC 119 Printed Electronics and serves as a participating member of several of its working groups. Chris also represents IPC as a member of the America’s Flexible Hybrid Electronics Manufacturing Institute, for which he is a co-lead of its Standards, Reliability and Test Technical Working Group. Chris has 20 years of experience in standards development, nonprofit management and marketing. He received his degree in communications from Columbia College in Chicago.Tuesday 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm
E-standards & Regulations
How Industry Standards for E-Textiles Are Interconnecting Two Established Ecosystems to Reduce Costs, Accelerate Innovation and Speed Adoption
Consensus-based industry standards ensure quality product, shorten time to market, lower overall design and manufacturing costs and accelerate technical and technology innovation. For more than 60 years, IPC committees of volunteers from the electronics supply chain have produced more than 300 industry standards in the spirit of collaboration and betterment of industry. These standards have been adopted by numerous market segments, including military, aerospace, consumer, medical and automotive—many of the same markets that will use e-textiles.
It is in this same spirit of collaboration and standardization that the e-textiles supply chain approached IPC to form its own committee to develop industry standards. These companies understand that for the e-textiles ecosystem to flourish, it needs common ground in terminologies, guidelines, test methodologies and minimum requirements. They also see understand the convergence of two major industries—textiles and electronics—and see IPC as a qualified space for these two industries to engage and to build on IPC’s decades of electrical and electronics standards, education and certification.
In this presentation, Chris Jorgensen will discuss the benefits of industry standards and standards development activities, provide updates on standards being developed by the IPC E-Textiles Committee and share how RISE attendees can influence these standards and efficiently develop new standards to meet industry gaps.
