The Carded Nonwovens Technology Course covers fibers and materials, the structure of nonwovens and how one measures properties such as formation, uniformity, fiber orientation, etc. The course will also cover the carding process from the bale opener to carding, cross lapping, needle-punching and thermal bonding.
The bonding portion of the course is a critical piece, as it will cover some major discussions in terms of structure-process-property relationships to optimize carded nonwoven materials to meet the requirements of the application. The course will cover fiber blending and composite formation, along with a focus on the needle-punching and hydroentangling bonding processes.
Upon completing the course, attendees will have a comprehensive grasp on carded nonwoven production processes, including raw material selection, basic science knowledge, testing and the characterization used to create end-use products. Attendees will also understand how to manipulate important variables to optimize the process.

The Spunbond Technology Course combines classroom learning with hands-on activities in NWI's state-of-the-art fabrication and testing labs to provide attendees a fundamental understanding of the process of forming spunbond webs. The course focuses on the importance of controlling structure-property-process relationships to optimize spunbond materials to meet the requirements of the application. The course will cover model polymers, such as PP, as well as the use of alternative polymers (PET, PLA, PBS, etc.), providing attendees an "algorithm" for running an efficient spunbond process based on polymer properties.
Upon completing the course, attendees will have a comprehensive grasp on spunbond nonwoven production processes, including raw material selection, basic science knowledge, testing, and the characterization used to create end-use products. Attendees will also understand the important connection between thermal profiles and extrusion (i.e., min/max temperatures) to optimize the process.
