As a potential candidate for the role of Manager, Research & Development, Materials Engineering, you would play a pivotal part in driving innovation within materials science and nonwovens at PDI. Collaborating seamlessly with PDI colleagues, you would be tasked with contributing to R&D initiatives, orchestrating technology transfer, and supporting commercialization efforts aligned with our strategic imperatives. With a distinct emphasis on personal development, coaching, and feedback, this role is integral to fostering growth and advancement within the R&D organization and PDI.


As a candidate for the Manager role, you would not only contribute as a member but also lead a proficient technical team in the design, development, and execution of R&D programs. This dual focus is vital for advancing PDI’s Materials Engineering function and fostering the professional development of your team members. Beyond individual contributions, this role involves collaborating with external partners, navigating compliance intricacies, and contributing to the success of R&D projects. Knowledge and understanding of product development, nonwovens, materials science, and adherence to regulatory frameworks, including EPA, FPLA, FDA, GMP, GDP, and OTC processes, is essential.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Your responsibilities would be focused expanding in-depth knowledge in materials engineering, nonwovens development, and GMP supply plans, along with effective project management. The emphasis remains on ensuring that technical and business requirements are not only met but surpassed. A significant aspect of this role is the commitment to learning, incorporating feedback, and actively participating in you and your teams professional development.

As a candidate for the Manager, Research & Development role, you should demonstrate an eagerness to develop proficiency in business and organizational leadership, collaboration, business planning and monitoring, technical management, innovation and creativity, negotiation and influence, project participation, business and financial acumen, and customer insight gathering. An essential aspect of this role is the enthusiasm for talent development and coaching.


  • A minimum of a BS degree in Material Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline is needed.


  • New Product development and leadership in a regulated environment.

  • An openness to gaining an advanced understanding of nonwovens and the supply chain is essential.


  • 8+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated eagerness to learn and contribute to scientific and collaborative responsibilities.
  • This role is open to candidates looking to build a track record in nonwovens and material science.


  • Leveraging any previous experience or skills in Wipes/Nonwovens is critical.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, coupled with a keen interest in research, development, and commercialization processes, would be valued.
  • Eagerness to translate this interest into fostering personal and team growth is key.


  • The role encompasses engagement in a professional office environment and potential participation in a lab setting, providing a conducive environment for learning, strategic thinking, and contributing to the development of both you and your team members.


  • $130,000 - $150,000 annually
