Techmer PM Announces Midwest Consolidation

Illinois Facility Expanding to Become Midwest Center of Excellence

CLINTON, Tenn., April 26, 2016 – Techmer PM, a leading materials design company, is expanding its Batavia, Ill., plant as part of ongoing investments to support increasing marketplace demand for advanced solutions and rapid response from operational efficiencies.

The Batavia expansion, which will be completed by the end of 2016, includes the addition of several extrusion lines with both new equipment and hardware relocated from the Avon, Ohio, plant site. New employees will be added in production, technical, and other support positions during the remainder of the year. Techmer PM’s Avon, Ohio, operations will be consolidated into Batavia, creating a “Midwest Center of Excellence” that sharpens the company’s focus on innovation and collaboration. The Avon plant, which Techmer PM acquired in 2008 through the Accel Corp. acquisition, will close by the end of the year.

The consolidation will help Techmer PM gain efficiencies via material handling upgrades and automation. The total expansion is expected to result in a net capacity increase of 30 percent. In addition, Techmer will install its latest “small-lot” know-how into the Batavia site. This technology enhances quality, lowers scrap rates, and increases velocity for small orders in a variety of polymer systems. The initial investment will be over $2 million.

“Our investment in equipment and improved processes is a reflection of our dedication to leveraging strengths from our existing business and finding new ways to meet the needs of our growing customer base,” said Ryan Howley, president. “Enhancements in our Batavia operations will help us to develop an even stronger Midwest presence and extend our long-term focus on creating industry-leading materials design solutions.” The 80,000 square-foot Batavia plant opened in fall 2013.

“This is an exciting and challenging time for all of us, and I want to thank everyone for their ongoing commitment to excellence,” said Mike Gross, site manager at Batavia.

Techmer ES, a wholly owned subsidiary of Techmer PM, is also nearing completion of its New Castle, Del., plant. The new plant represents a $2.6 million investment in its engineered solutions capabilities. The first production line started up earlier this month, and all lines are expected to be running by the end of June.
