Geotextiles Inlaid with RFID Labels Help Learn Extent of Damage to Roads

Potholes and crocodile cracking – you’ve encountered these many a time in your daily commute to work or on the weekends when you run errands. You’re driving along and swerve to miss one pothole and hit another instead. In addition to traffic in general, road conditions can be a source of huge frustration to motorists. Germany has a new way to combat deteriorating roads using a combination of geotextiles (to help improve the life and quality of the roadways) and RFID labels. The RFID labels embedded in the roadways have a transponder that gives data to road maintenance crews and could perhaps prevent problems before they happen. Wouldn’t that be nice?
